Polisocial

The social engagement and responsibility programme @Politecnico di Milano

Polimi joins the Talloires Network for social responsibilities of H.E.

At the beginning of July, Politecnico di Milano has joined the Talloires Network, a global association based at the Tufts University (USA) that brings together over 390 universities around the world, that are committed to strengthening the civic roles and social responsibilities of higher education.

This adds an important element in the international relations of PoliMi and a new opportunity for the exchange of good practices in the area of civic engagement, in which our University is increasingly standing out as an example of commitment, originality and innovation, also thanks to the contribution of Polisocial.

The establishment of the Network follows the 2005 Talloires Declaration on the Civic Roles and Social Responsibilities of Higher Education, of which Politecnico di Milano is now among the official subscribers and promoters as signatory member.

AIBs – African Innovation Brokers

The AIBs – African Innovation Brokers project, developed by Politecnico di Milano and Politecnico di Torino, funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation, kicked off on September 25th at our university.
The initiative opened with a 5-week course dedicated to a group of innovation leaders from 6 African countries (Tunisia, Niger, Nigeria, Kenya, Ethiopia, Mozambique).

After receiving over 450 applications, 21 top-level leaders were selected, including officials from international organizations and institutions, entrepreneurs and university professors. The 5 women selected in the group have high scientific profiles. The Leaders will act as brokers, forming a second generation of innovators in their countries, to build a community of over 200 African talents.

The next steps include the creation of a virtual laboratory (Africa Innovation Cradle) to support the activities and collaborations within the network and the training of the second generation of innovators.

HONOURS PROGRAMME – call for application

It is now open the call for application for the Honours Programme “Engineering for Sustainable Development”.
The Honours Programme entitled “Engineering for Sustainable Development” is a parallel training programme that takes place at the same time as the Laurea Magistrale programmes (equivalent to Masters of Science) of the School of Industrial and Information Engineering and of the School of Civil, Environmental and Land Management Engineering. The aim of the Honours Programme is to enhance and develop the systemic and cross-discipline skills of future engineers, helping them understand and evaluate global challenges so that they may operate effectively in the field of sustainable development, deploying both theoretical and practical technical skills.
The Honours Programme is an innovative training programme aimed at young, talented, competent and highly motivated students, who are selected based on their profile, their academic career and a letter of motivation (or statement of purpose). The Honours Programme alternates the conventional teaching of extracurricular courses with more informal training experiences, such as seminars, in which students listen, gain new experiences and engage in group work. Finally, the programme requires students to develop a technological and/or methodological research project for the purpose of their thesis, complemented, where possible, by a field experience (in a national, European or non-European organisation) based on multidisciplinary issues connected with global development.
