Rethinking the spaces inside a prison. Low-cost projects and recognition of social needs for designing spaces of socialization inside a penitentiary
The course “building natural” applies the experience developed during the previous editions in low-cost design and recognition of social needs for the construction of a relational space in a particularly difficult environment: the penitentiary world. Strongly oriented towards an atelier activity, the lab involves both students and prisoners in developing architectural design activities. The teaching proposal assumes prison life, and in particular the condition of reclusion, as a field of study to focus the two-way relationship between the configuration of the space and the nature of relationships. For this current academic semester (2014/2015) the teaching activity is focused on the Prison of Opera and students are developing project proposals for the new pavilion of detention.
