Integrated and sustainable Management of Red-Thai Bink River system in a changing climate
The Red River basin is the second largest in Vietnam and is undergoing rapid development in terms of population (currently 26 million people) and economic growth. The complexity of the system, the conflicts between the use of water (hydroelectric energy production, flooding control, irrigation supply, navigation and environmental services) mean that advanced techniques are required in managing the reservoirs. The IMRR project was therefore given the task to identify said policies. The objective was pursued through an integrated and participatory decision-making process, supported by advanced modelling and optimisation tools.
